Båhad-Bhägavatämåta tells two fascinating stories, stories which disclose the confidential truths regarding Kåñëa, Kåñëa’s devotees, and Kåñëa’s devotional service. The first tells of Närada Muni’s search for the devotee that had most fully received Lord Kåñëa’s mercy, and the second tells of the wanderings of the cowherd, Gopa-kumära, who searched for the Lord of his beloved Madana-gopäla mantra. After hearing Çrémad-Bhägavatam, Mahäräja Parékñit’s mother, Uttarä, approached him in a secluded place and requested him to extract the essence of what Çukadeva Gosvämé had taught him and reveal it to her. That essence is called bhägavatämåtam, which is herein presented by Çréla Sanätana Gosvämé.
